Veterans Non-Competitive Appointment
Bulletin OSER-0304-MRS provides information on the non-competitive appointment of certain disabled veterans to a civil service position. This bulletin allows for non-competitive appointments to all positions in the classified service; previously it was limited to non-professional or entry professional positions.
Before You Apply . . .
Be sure you are an eligible veteran to use this employment process.
1. Be a veteran with a 30% or greater service-connected disability
(documentation must be within the last 12 months)
2. Have a DD214
3. Have been honorably discharged
Please scan your DD214 and official documentation of your service-connected disability rating. You will be asked to upload this documentation as part of the application process.

When specific vacancies occur, names will either be referred directly from the gateway announcement OR from posted announcements for these positions. You must first apply and be deemed eligible from the gateway announcement in order to apply for one of these specific job announcements.
Gateway Application Process (verification of eligibility only)
From the job announcement titled: Veterans Non-Competitive Appointment - Vets Rating 30+, click on Apply Now.
Be sure your contact information is complete and accurate, including current mailing address, phone number and email address.
Identify the counties areas where you would accept employment.
Follow the application instructions carefully to ensure that all required information is provided. Required fields are indicated with an asterisk (*).
Upload your DD214, documentation of your disability (30% or greater) and your resume. Disability documentation must be within the past 12 months.
Identify which of the occupational areas that are of interest to you and for which you have transferable skills. Be sure to check all that apply.
If the documentation you provide (DD214 and documentation of disability) is incomplete or unclear, your status will be designated as "Ineligible" until all documentation issues are resolved. Ineligible applicants will not be referred to State of Wisconsin hiring managers for vacancies. If you provide new or updated documentation, your eligibility will be reviewed again.
All documentation will be verified to determine your eligibility to participate in this recruitment process. After you apply, you will receive an email indicating your eligibility. You can also check your eligibility in your Job Cart by logging into WiscJobsforVets
If eligible, your name may be referred for State of Wisconsin opportunities that match your interests and skills (as indicated on your application). After referral, your qualifications may be further evaluated through resume reviews, interviews or other methods.
You may update your application and materials at any time.
Your eligibility will remain active for 6 months. If you remain interested in being considered for vacancies, you will need to express your continued interest by using the "Extend Eligibility" function.
If you obtain permanent employment with the State of Wisconsin through this or another process, or are no longer interested in being considered for vacancies, please go to your Job Cart to Withdraw your application.

Application Process for Specific Position Vacancy
As the use of WiscJobsforVets increases throughout state agencies, you will see more opportunities to apply for specific vacancies.
To find a posting for a specific position, enter your search criteria from the home page. Here, you can enter your search criteria (e.g. keyword, agency, location, etc.). If you are logged into the system, you can also save your search and have new matches emailed to you via E-Notify.

To apply for a specific position, please follow the application instructions provided in the job announcement. You will use the "Apply Eligibility" function in your job cart to apply your eligibility information from the gateway announcement. In this case being deemed "Eligible" means you have met the requirements but there actually is no score.
The application process for the specific position may ask for supplemental information about your training and experience.
After you apply, you will receive an email indicating your eligibility. You can also check your eligibility in your Job Cart.
